Coaching skills

The best managers don’t just tell people what to do, they help them work things out for themselves. Our Coaching Skills course builds that capability with a practical, structured approach that develops confidence, ownership and better results in the people around you.

People in workshop

Coaching sits on a spectrum from directive (telling someone what to do) to non-directive (asking questions so they find their own answer). This module helps participants spot where a conversation sits on that spectrum and choose the right approach for the person and situation, rather than defaulting to one style.

This module introduces a practical framework for coaching conversations: clarifying the goal, exploring the current reality honestly, generating options, and agreeing a concrete next step. So every conversation has direction, not just a good chat.

Knowing where coaching ends matters as much as knowing how to coach. This module helps participants recognise the boundary between coaching, which is forward-focused on someone’s own goals, and situations that call for different support, so they know when to coach and when to signpost elsewhere.

A good conversation means little if nothing changes after. This module covers keeping people motivated to follow through, setting accountability that sticks, and following up in a way that embeds real change rather than good intentions that fade.
